Parents Of 10 Year Old Nylah Anderson File Suit Against Social Media Giant

TikTok Sued Over Fatal Teen Blackout Challenge

Parents of 10-year-old Nylah Anderson file suit against social media giant

TikTok has been sued by the parents of a 10-year-old girl who died after participating in a blackout challenge on the platform. Nylah Anderson was found unresponsive in her Milwaukee home in December 2021 after choking herself while attempting the challenge.

According to the lawsuit, filed in federal court in Wisconsin, TikTok knew about the dangerous challenge but failed to take adequate steps to prevent users from participating in it. The lawsuit alleges that TikTok’s algorithm promoted the challenge to Nylah and other young users, and that the company did not provide sufficient warnings about the risks of the challenge.

TikTok has not yet commented on the lawsuit. The company has previously said that it does not allow blackout challenges on its platform and that it takes user safety seriously.
