Biden's Political World Collapsing
Biden Isolated as Calls for Withdrawal Grow
President Joe Biden is more isolated than ever, with many senior-ranking White House and campaign staff members departing amid a crumbling political landscape. In an interview with ABC's George Stephanopoulos on July 5, Biden joked that only divine intervention could change his mind about running. However, as bipartisan calls condemning the horrific attack on Trump poured in from all corners of the country, the Biden campaign immediately went into damage control mode.
More Democrats Call for Biden to Withdraw
At least three more House Democrats called on President Biden to withdraw from the presidential race Thursday after his first solo news conference in months. The calls follow a disastrous performance in which Biden stumbled over his words and appeared confused. The latest defections are a sign of growing unease within the Democratic Party about Biden's fitness for office.
In an interview with CNN, Rep. Elissa Slotkin (D-Mich.) said that she is "deeply concerned" about Biden's mental health. "I don't think he's up to the job of being president," she said.
Rep. Abigail Spanberger (D-Va.) echoed Slotkin's concerns, saying that she is "very concerned" about Biden's ability to lead the country. "I think it's time for him to step aside," she said.
The growing calls for Biden to withdraw from the race are a major blow to his presidential campaign. If he does not withdraw, it is likely that he will face a primary challenge from a more moderate Democrat.
