After years of setbacks and delays, NASA's Starliner capsule is finally set to make its grand debut on Thursday, August 3. Atop an Atlas V rocket, the capsule will soar into the skies from Space Launch Complex 41 at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station.
This historic launch marks a pivotal moment for commercial spaceflight. The Starliner, developed by Boeing, is designed to transport astronauts and cargo to and from the International Space Station. Its successful mission would pave the way for routine commercial flights to the orbital outpost, reducing NASA's reliance on Russian Soyuz spacecraft.
The Starliner capsule will carry a trio of test dummies, named Rosie, Helga, and Zohar, instead of a human crew. The mission, designated Orbital Flight Test-2 (OFT-2), aims to demonstrate the capsule's ability to launch, dock with the ISS, and return safely to Earth.
