Dwayne Johnson and A24's ‘The Smashing Machine’ First Look Unveiled
Billed as a Sports Biopic, the Film Features Johnson as Legendary MMA Fighter Mark Kerr
The Production, Which Also Stars Emily Blunt, Explores the Pioneer's Struggle in the Early Days of UFC
A first look image has been released from A24's upcoming sports biopic "The Smashing Machine," starring Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt. The film tells the story of Mark Kerr, a legendary MMA fighter who rose to prominence in the no-holds-barred era of the UFC.
Johnson, who has recently been seen in films such as "Black Adam" and "Jungle Cruise," plays the role of Kerr. Blunt, known for her work in "A Quiet Place" and "Mary Poppins Returns," also stars in the film. The first image shows Johnson as Kerr in the ring, looking determined and ready for a fight.
The film is directed by Benny Safdie, one half of the Safdie brothers who are known for their work on films such as "Uncut Gems" and "Good Time." The screenplay is written by Micah Fitzerman-Blue and Noah Harpster, who previously collaborated on the Oscar-nominated film "The Way Back."
"The Smashing Machine" is scheduled to be released on May 21, 2024.
